| Event
report What another fantastic day, I really believe that everybody who attended the first and second seminars had a brilliant time. Our event yesterday covered the world of martial arts, from the skills of Shidokan Karate demonstrated by Sensei JJ Burnell (5th Dan), through to the incredible skills and knowledge of Sensei Andrew Manwaring (5th Dan Kempo Ju Jitsu). Sensei Andrew Morrell (4th Dan), who is the senior Instructor at Cobra Martial Arts, combined these two skill areas in his cross training style, which he described as 'Kick Jitsu'. Finally and probably the most fun Alan Cain ran our students and instructors through the control and restraint skills of the military police and then on to Hand to knife defence, and introduced us all to Redman AKA John Horne who was fantastic. In hot conditions he kept being kicked, punched, thrown to the ground and clubbed by not only the attending students, but also by a young family, who came along to watch. The event will probably raise nearly £1400, which will be split between The Teenage Cancer Trust and The MAST appeal at The East Cheshire Hospital Trust. We would like to thank our main sponsor AstraZeneca, but also companies that supported us on a smaller scale Pechiney UK and Costco. We are still hoping for a couple of other sponsorship deals to come in. During our lunch break we had an impressive demonstration. Quite honestly the best I personally ever seen. Instructor Alastair Hall fought one of his Dan Grades James Bishton under Continuous semi contact rules, then Sensei Andrew Manwaring demonstrated several of his defence against unarmed and armed assailants which included knife, stick and chain defences. Then Andreas from Shidokan Karate who is a Russian fighter studying in London, fought Craig Bracegirdle a seventeen year old Dan Grade from Swandai Karate in Macclesfield. The rules were decided between the two fighters and they chose to fight full contact including low kicks, but with semi contact punches to the face. What a fight, it is along time since I saw such quality, truely impressive. Sensei Andrew Morrell then demonstrated padwork, indicating strikes against twin attackers. Andrew is incredibly sharp and flexible and could stike the head from extremely close quarters. I then fought Sensei Steve Fenwick under Shidokan Knockdown rules, I think the students and instructors watching were quite impressed at how hard two good friends were willing to hit each other for the sake of a good demonstration, of course it didn't hurt, not one little bit, and my casualty doctor will confirm this. Finally Alan Cain ran through his favourite restraint techniques against armed and unarmed assailants. I think the demonstration covered a large part of Martial arts and the video we produced is a top quality tape. I am going to attempt to organise video demonstrations showing the skills of the Instructors at the 1st seminar and the edit these together. I will keep the participating instructors informed and keep the web site updated with my progress. The video is of very high quality so far, and the eventual tape will be on slae, with funds going once again to the two charities. Thankyou to everybody who took part, both Instructors and students. See you all in the Autumn of 2004, for our next Double Whammy seminars. |
